WALKING IN MAJORCA

Introduction

Enjoy a week of hiking in northern Mallorca. We will discover some of the most beautiful and wild hidden gems in Formentor Cape, the Bay of Pollença, the Tramuntana Mountains and the pinturesque villages of Alcúdia, Pollença and Artà. Another one of the isle attractions are its amazing small beaches, or "Calas" as locals call them, where we will enjoy refreshing baths surrounded by nature.

All in all, an active and varied week in a privileged environment. The order and content of this trip can be adapted to the skill and requests of the group.

1st day

ARRIVAL IN MAJORCA

Arrival at Majorca Airport. Transfer to the hotel, located in the Port of Alcúdia. Dinner and accommodation.

CROSSING THE ALCÚDIA PENINSULA

Distance: 9 km
Total elevation gain: 370 m

At 09.30h, bus transfer to Aucanada beach, located in southern Majorca. We will hike a coastal stage with beautiful views over a lighthouse and the bay, before reaching some mountain passes with pine forests and goats. From the highest mountain pass we will be able to enjoy the views over the Tramuntana Mountains, the Bay of Pollença, Formentor Cape and the Llevant Mountains. After descending rocky paths we will arrive at S'Illot beach, where we will be able to enjoy a bath, have a drink at the "Chiringuito" and a picnic lunch.

At 14.30h we will return to Alcúdia, but before getting to the hotel we will visit the small walled town of Alcúdia for 1 hour and a half.

ARTÀ MARKET & COASTAL HIKE TO LLEVANT MOUNTAINS

Today we will walk in the eastern side of the isle. Departure at 09.00h.

Our first visit will be the beautiful village of Artà, known by the Sant Salvador sanctuary and its popular weekly market. Free time to roam, nose around and buy. Afterwards we will move to the Llevant Mountains coast, to discover some of its virgin turquoise water "calas", like Cala Mitjana and Cala Torta (chance for a bath and picnic). Always walking next to the sea we will arrive at Cala Mesquida, a stunning beach with a big dune system, where we will finish today's route.

If the group has some energy left in the tank, we can continue for 3 extra km to Cala Agulla. Return to the hotel at 17.00h.

BAY OF ALCÚDIA

Bus transfer to Can Picafort. Today's hike will take us through a path that follows the coast of the Bay of Alcúdia, passing by an old stoneware quarry, prehistoric monuments and beautiful juniper and tamarix forests.

We will arrive in the summer village of Son Serra for lunch stop and to enjoy a drink and a bath. Afterwards we will continue to Colònia de Sant Pere, a little charming port under the Llevant Mountains.

Bus transfer to the hotel.

PILGRIM PATHS TO LLUC SANCTUARY

Distance: 10 km
Total elevation gain: 400 m
Difficulty: low/medium


Departure at 09.00h. A scenic road will lead us from Caimari to Lluc, located in the middle of the Tramuntana Mountains. Here we will walk a popular pilgrim stoned path, with amazing views over the mountains and the plain.

Arrival at the holy valley where the Lluc Sanctuary is located. After visiting the sanctuary and having some free time for lunch, we will continue walking through a enchanted forest with karst rocks. On the way back, we will stop at the village of Pollença to enjoy a guided tour and more free time.

Return to the hotel at 17.00h.

FROM CALA MURTA TO FORMENTOR BEACH

Distance: 11 km
Total elevation gain: 450 m
Difficulty: medium


Cape Formentor is one of the most iconic places in Majorca, thanks to its viewpoints and wild landscape.

Bus transfer (12 km) on a fabulous road.

Today we will walk from Cala Figuera, with views over the Cape and its Lighthouse, to Cala Murta, surrounded by pine trees and holm oaks. From the Casteller viewpoint we will observe the great Bay of Alcúdia. Lastly, we will walk by a valley with vineyards until we arrive at Formentor beach, where a boat will take us back to Pollença's port.

Return to the hotel by bus.

Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to the Majorca Airport. Flight home.
